What we arrange

Care for cows, arranged in person.

On the date agreed with you, we personally visit an established gaushala in or near Indore and arrange the Gau Seva on your behalf. Depending on the seva agreed, this may include purchasing fodder, arranging the agreed gaushala contribution and, where permitted, personally feeding the cows. We document the visit respectfully and share the acknowledgement with you afterwards.

We keep the description honest and avoid guaranteeing specific spiritual outcomes. Practices may vary by family, sampradaya and region.

The tradition behind it

Why Gau Seva?

Care and reverence for cows have held an important place in Hindu religious life for centuries. The Mahabharata's Anushasana Parva devotes an extended series of teachings to cows and Go Daan, and traditional household-duty literature also includes offering fodder and care to cows. Roots & Seva's Gau Seva is a practical expression of that care — helping provide fodder and support at an established gaushala.

An important distinction

Gau Seva at Roots & Seva should not be presented as equivalent to the classical ritual of Go Daan, which refers to gifting a cow and has its own traditional procedure.

We don't claim that scripture requires feeding cows on a particular day. Rather, families may personally choose Gau Seva on a tithi, birthday, Amavasya or another meaningful occasion. Read more about Gau Seva →

Gau Seva questions.

Can I arrange Gau Seva in memory of a parent?+

Yes. Many families arrange Gau Seva on an annual tithi or birthday in loving memory of a parent or grandparent. You give us the Sankalp name and we reference it in the acknowledgement.

What if I don't know the exact tithi?+

Share the details you know — an English date, an approximate time of year. If a specific tithi needs confirming before scheduling, we'll discuss it with you. We don't treat automatic tithi calculations as authoritative where family practice may differ.

Where is Gau Seva arranged?+

At an established gaushala in or near Indore that a member of our family personally visits. Roots & Seva is intentionally local — we stay close enough to take responsibility for what has been promised.
